Mail & Mascara & Music, Oh My

Goooood morning! I love a Friday when it comes at the end of a busy week and it’s followed by a weekend with lots of plans 🙂 Life lately has me feeling like this…

…when really I should be thinking this:

And yes, I listen to Nicki Minaj and you should, too. She’s ridiculous but she’s peppy and fun, and who doesn’t need a little bit of that in their life?! Let’s get to it…these are a few of my favorite things. <– You know you just started singing. 😉

Favorite Internet Find

Speaking of singing, I spent a good hour searching for a random song I heard on the radio and a TV commercial the other day. After exhausting all the top hits lists in iTunes and Spotify, I finally figured out what the song was and now I can’t stop listening.

Also, I realized last night while I was watching Big Brother that this song is the background music in the commercial for the new Jeep Renegade and this song is called Renegade…if only I had connected those dots before my thorough search!

Also, if you watched the cartoon or read the Arthur books as a child, you have to read this Buzzfeed article about D.W. Every time I read it, I laugh. Especially when I read #8 and #10. I can hear her talking in my head. That’s how you know you’re a true Arthur fan haha! She is so sassy!

Favorite Meal

This was my dinner on Wednesday night. Well, half the cookie sandwich and all of the ice cream. Baked and Wired, you have my heart.

I tried a crepe (which I call a “creep”) for the first time at Snap DC and it was so yummy! When I was on vacation last year in Riviera Maya, I had a crepe for dessert with almost every breakfast. Ha! But usually I just got Nutella, peanut butter, banana, and the crepe and ate it piece by piece without ever really putting it together. The crepe pictured above is called the “Famous” and it had turkey, spinach, tomato, and asiago cheese. I do not like tomatoes…but it felt like part of the deal with that particular crepe and the cook said I would ruin the flavor if I skipped the tomato, so I listened and ordered it as is. I ate the tomato, but I liked the other parts of the crepe much more!

The Kylie version of spaghetti with meatballs: zucchini noodles with tomato basil sauce and turkey meatballs. I have the Veggetti spiralizer which my mom purchased for me here and it is so easy to use! After I slice my zucchini noodles, I microwave them for 2 minutes, drain the excess water, and I’m good to go! There are other fancier ways of cooking your “zoodles” but I’m a simple chef.

Favorite Outfit

My brand new J. Crew shorts that cost a beautiful $19 made an appearance on Wednesday when I went to the mall. They fit in a way that makes me feel like I need to wear a cropped or shorter top with them, but now looking at this picture I think that tank top makes me look boxy. Ha! It is actually a cute tank because the back has detail, but it might not be my first choice next time I throw these on. 😉

I used to wear these shorts all.the.time. I like to take my clothes to Plato’s Closet before I donate them and once while I was browsing and waiting for my basket, I found these shorts from New York & Company for $8.

The detail on them makes them my favorite! #shinebrightlikeadiamond

Favorite Piece of Mail

I have never been so excited to receive a package in the mail! I was lounging in my room with a towel on my head post-shower and I actually went downstairs with wet hair to get this from the office. Ha! I was not a huge fan of jumping on the Erin Condren bandwagon (because let’s be honest, it is a bandwagon), BUT I have had to replace all of my planners in the last 3 years before that particular year has ended because the spiral never lasts. It comes uncoiled and pages fall out and it. drives. me. crazy. EC Life Planners are definitely not cheap, so I am hoping that works in my favor here. Plus now that I have a new job I have all sorts of fun new events to write down. 🙂

And how amazing is this shirt that I ordered from Hungry Runner Girl?! Perfect for marathon training:)

Favorite Purchase

Thanks to Randi’s suggestions, I bought this new mascara when I actually needed it instead of procrastinating and using my old one until the last second. I’m pretty sure there wasn’t much left in there, anyway!

I am the biggest advocate for new running shoes. You need the ones that fit your feet the best and you should never start a new training cycle in old, burned out shoes! I took my own advice and finally bought a new pair the other night. I feel like I am running on a cloud now! After trying on at least ten different pairs, I ended up with the Asics Gel Kayano 21…which is the exact same shoe I had before, but the newest version. Sigh. At least I got a new color. 🙂 Running shoes are the ONLY shoes that I will ever justify spending a ridiculous amount of money on. But it doesn’t hurt that they were slightly on sale and I had a coupon! I still cried when the cashier told me the total.

And now I will leave you with this perfect picture of my brother’s dog…

…such a handsome pup. 🙂 Our golden retriever, Colby, won’t sit still for more than 10 seconds or I’m sure my mom would share a picture of him looking perfect, too!

Happy Friday, friends! I’m kicking the weekend off at the pool. I hope your days are filled with sunshine and relaxation!

Rain, Reading + A New Look

How was your weekend?! Mine looked a lot like this…

Comfy clothes and slippers approximately 6 seconds after arriving home. Ha! I dare you to change faster than me. 😉 I was super excited to wear these clothes because it felt COLD this weekend which was a welcomed change! As a 23 year old, I pride myself on being an adult (90% of the time) but there are still some things that I rudely claim “only old people do”. One of these things –> talk about the weather. However, let’s discuss weather for a minute.

Sitting in my car because nothing is important enough to deal with hail.

The Maryland/DC/Virginia area has been having some crazy thunderstorms lately. Last week, it was about 95* with 90% humidity all week long. It. was. so. hot. But on random occasions, we would have these ridiculous thunderstorms…think puddles that are deeper than you think when driving, lightning that makes green lights turn red, and hail. This craziness usually only lasts for an hour or so and then we are back to sun and heat. But on Saturday, it torrentially downpouring and CHILLY! 🙂 After running a bunch of errands in the morning, I decided the rain wasn’t worth fighting with anymore and came home to relax in my favorite comfy clothes. Is there anything better than that on a weekend?!

Aaaand there’s that sun we were talking about.

My weekend was already off to a great start (besides cooler weather) because my roommate checked our mailbox and I got ALL THE THINGS!

The new music and choreography for Round 40 of PiYo (which is 80s inspired…so fun!), a card from my mom, a card from one of my best friends, and FREE protein powder packets from Quest Nutrition! I received Vanilla Milkshake and Chocolate Milkshake after filling out a survey a few weeks ago. My favorite Quest protein flavor is peanut butter because it is truly such a decadent flavor! Some protein powder can taste gritty or even thin, but I have never had that problem with Quest protein powder. You should try it! (P.S. I’m not sponsored in any way by the company, I just love their products.) Their website is always offering some kind of free promotion. Also, they just came out with two new protein powder flavors: Salted Caramel and Banana Cream. Salted Caramel is right up my sweet tooth’s alley. 😉 One of my friends from college sent me a picture of the two free packets she received in the mail and she got the two NEW flavors! I love mail and I love free things so I tried not to be too jealous. Ha!

My many pieces of mail inspired me to sit down and make little cards and care packages for two of my friends or family. One of my summer bucket list goals was to send two pieces of mail each month. June = check! And I am obsessed with the stationary. Target dollar section is the best!

For some reason, I have been waking up at 3 or 4 AM every night and I cannot seem to go back to sleep. Thanks to Molly’s suggestion, I heard some pretty good tunes the other night. 😉

And I added another book to my list for the year! My mom and I set a goal to read 52 books this year and seeing as it’s already July, I am nervous about how close I will actually get to achieving this goal! I love Jodi Picoult and when I saw this book at my local Half Price books, I knew I had to get it because even though it’s an older title, I have never read it. It was hard to finish and I hate when that happens! It was much different than her “typical” story line, the timeline was a little difficult to keep up with because each chapter jumped around, and I found myself kind of not caring what was going to happen at some points. Now that I know how the story ends, I like how it all came together…and I’m glad I have another book to add to my list! Ha! Have you ever started reading a book that you just couldn’t get into!?

I ate my favorite meal on repeat…

…and served in the nursery at church before attending service on Sunday. I go to National Community Church in DC and I’m so glad God brought me to that place when I moved here last summer. I have been in a small group since I started attending church, but I just started serving in the nursery. I LOVE spending time with the babies in the nursery. The first week I shadowed, I was holding a baby who was teething and she was SO distraught the entire time her parents were in church. This week was much better but we were a few adults short so it was difficult to appease the ones who were upset and keep the ones who were happy entertained! My favorite moment was laying on the floor with 2 girls and a boy and playing “cars” with them. They thought sound effects were hilarious even though they were only about 9-12 months! One girl took a liking to me and when she got tired, I ended up rocking with her a lot. When her dad picked her up, she cried! I wanted to go home with her. She was so sweet!

Perhaps the biggest event of the weekend came when I went to the hair salon and told my stylist to “chop away”.

I have worn my hair the exact same way since eighth grade. I just like my side swept bangs and long length! I have cut it shorter a few times over the years, but I really wanted something different! Now, I have choppy layers and my hair is longer in the front and shorter in the back. Also, my favorite topknot ponytail hairstyle is out…

…because my ponytail now looks like this! Ha! Running so far has required lots of bobby pins and headbands. 😉 And I miss the knot on top of my head when I’m just hanging out and relaxing! It feels weird to have my hair down. Ah!

– How was your weekend?

– How often do you change your hair?

Friday Favorites: It’s Gonna Be May

I just have to…

Happy Friday! I hope your week was full of lots of fun moments. I’m so thankful for these posts because I love looking back at what I’ve already forgotten! Life can be really good even when it’s busy and hectic and crazy (as mine has been…grad school problems)!

Linking up with Andrea, Erika, and Narci!

– FOOD –

I usually grocery shop on Saturday and cook a bunch of food for the week on Sunday. I am a huge fan of leftovers! They make meal time so much easier. And when I have only prepped healthy things, I can only make healthy choices, even when I am ravenous. It’s a pretty sweet deal;) I decided that I am the kind of person who really likes to eat in front of the TV. Who doesn’t have this problem!? So when it’s time to eat, I’ll turn on the TV, kick my feet up on the ottoman, and just eat in my favorite chair. There are sooo many benefits to actually eating at a table and focusing on your food because you are less likely to overeat. BUT! This works for me. I eat what’s on my plate, I get a little TV time, and then I get back to whatever I was doing. My roommate and I keep completely different hours and she and I never eat at the same so it’s not like I’m being rude. 😉 But sometimes my leftovers look like this…

…eating and driving might be worse than texting and driving. Final decision up in the air.

The very best meal I had this week:

Burrito bowl + freshly baked chips because they were out when I ordered + queso. The chips and queso didn’t make it into the photo for obvious reasons. #myonetruelove

Sometimes I cheat on queso with trail mix. Trail mix is my other true love. If you haven’t picked this “Handful of Everything” kind up at Target yet, PUT IT ON THE LIST! Yogurt dipped peanuts, dried pineapple, dried mango, and dried banana, coconut flakes, raisins, chocolate chips, almonds…I’m drooling. Don’t ask how long it took me to eat this bag.

My favorite Gap skinny jeans slid on my body without having to do a little dance earlier this week. Praise the skinny jean gods!

Do you ever buy something with no idea of where you will wear it? I do that a lot with clearance items at Target. I bought this dress on sale last summer because I already had the shorts in the same pattern and fabric and LOVED them. I loved the style and cut of this dress because it is different than the rest in my closet, so that was another reason I needed it. Girl logic. 🙂 Anyways, I finally had the chance to wear it last weekend for an event for grad students at the UMD Golf Course! I call it an event, UMD called it “Grad Prom”. I can’t bring myself to admit I went to Grad Prom. That sounds so lame. But it was so fun! Hahaha

Favorite hoodie ever! I’m a Beachbody coach and my team is The Power Krew. I wasn’t home for our quarterly event last weekend but I went to an event in Baltimore that was almosttt as good! I definitely missed my Pittsburgh fam ❤

– MAIL –

I love every piece of mail I ever receive. I also love sending mail. Do you want to be pen pals? Because we totally can be. My mom told me to check my mailbox earlier this week and when I saw this card I thought, “YES! PERFECT FOR ME!” But I was surprised to open the card and see a note from my sweet baby brother and his volleyball pictures from this season! The best surprise.

I love mail. And selfies. And superfoods. And chocolate.

I don’t think I realized how NOT sunny it is in Pittsburgh until I moved to Maryland last summer. Pittsburgh and Seattle are on the same level of gray and rainy, I am now convinced. It is so sunny and warm here all the time. I love it! Especially after the long, snowy winter that we all endured!

Ohhh, the days of cross country, how I forgot about you! My running group and I went to Rock Creek Park this week to do a little loop around the trails. Oh my word. I was so glad to be following the people in front of me because I seriously was looking down at my feet the whole time! So many roots and rocks and little crevices! I kind of missed my racing spikes…

…yes. I definitely need trail shoes now. A necessary purchase. So thankful for daylight until almost 8 PM every night!

I am originally from Pittsburgh and I went to undergrad in Pittsburgh so it was always easy to sneak home to the suburbs if something was going on that I wanted to attend…like my youngest brother’s volleyball games. He’s 6’5″ of awesome. Sadly they lost this day, but I loved getting to see the action and pretend I was there!

Meet my other brother’s dog, Amigo. We call him Migo. He is the sweetest little dog ever and SO smart. My family has a Golden Retriever and Migo seriously makes Colby look like an idiot. Hahaha but apparently yesterday Migo was up to some antics of his own…he is obsessed with tennis balls. And so even though this tennis ball is already destroyed, he just couldn’t stand to see it on the patio table and took it upon himself to go get it. I just can’t deal with his face. SO FUNNY!

Happy weekend, y’all!

Friday Favorites

Linking up with Andrea, Erika, and Narci for Friday Favorites!

This makes me laugh…

Teaching PiYo is a definite favorite of mine! A few weeks ago, I taught at an event called “Get Pumped, Get Sculpted, Get Shaking”, which showcased some of the new routines and classes offered at the gym this semester. There were almost 60 people in the room and I had to teach on that little stage! I swear up close it looked like a ping pong table. I didn’t fall off, luckily;)

One of my favorite views this week…

What is better than sunshine at 7 AM in the middle of winter? #thelittlethings

On Wednesday, I got my favorite email of all time…I HAD MAIL!

Just slightly obsessed with peanut butter and jelly. And I don’t care who knows it. Thanks Mom:)

Later that night, I met up with my favorite group of people and we ran the National Mall aka the best running spot in D.C. in my opinion. It’s always so pretty and always makes me feel so lucky to live here!

#somuchreflection #runnerproblems #ihatemyglasses

I LOVE THESE PEOPLE but the only thing I see when I look at this picture is my glasses. I do not like them but I was too lazy to put contacts in yesterday. That is quite ironic because I wore glasses from the age of 7 until approximately July of last summer. I have had contacts for less than a year and I already think I look so strange without them! You can hardly see me because of all my pretty friends, so it’s okay;)

After our run (which was actually pretty fast even though we had such a large group!), we ate dinner at Qdoba and talked about our word of the week: patience. And I got a parking ticket for $100. Thank you District of Columbia. That part was not so fun, but between running with my friends and talking to my best friend from home on the phone for two hours (no, your eyes did not deceive you), Wednesday was pretty darn good!

On the note of patience…this verse came up in my quiet time this week and I just love it. I am working my way through Jesus Calling and some verses stick with me more than others! This one is one that I thought about for a few days so it’s definitely a favorite. I am not so good at memorizing Bible verses but this is a good one!

I am constantly writing, highlighting, or pinning quotes. I love how they seem to explain everything perfectly sometimes! So, thanks to Pinterest, I found this gem. I was reminded there is a difference between being patient and being passive!

Read the blog post here!

Thursday started off on the most amazing note ever…snow delay!

Read: no morning responsibilities. Aka: sleep in, eat breakfast in bed, and love. my. life. Our delay started as “university opening at 11 AM” and changed to “university opening at 12:30 PM”. I say if it’s afternoon we should just skip the whole day;)

My favorite day of the week is not Friday or Saturday or Sunday. It’s Thursday. In middle school, my friends and I declared it “Feel Good Thursday” and we even had a theme song.

We were silly teenage girls;)

Anyway, years later, I still have a love affair with Thursday. Which is odd because my schedule is usually still packed full and BUSY! But there is just something happy and exciting about knowing that the weekend is right around the corner. I liken it to the anticipation and cheerfulness that everyone feels right before Christmas Eve. Seriously. Such a little detail, but it will always be the best day of the week. 🙂

In food news…because don’t I always have food news…my roommate decided to be adventurous and cook eggplant parmesan. My favorite foods all in the same dish. Vegetables, cheese, sauce…the very best dinner.

This weekend, I will be spending all of my time at the gym for the Southeast Collegiate Fitness Expo. That’s a mouthful;) I have to go because the University of Maryland is hosting the expo and since I’m a fitness instructor, I have to help represent our school well. 🙂 But I actually can’t wait to go to all the seminars! Healthy living, nutrition, fitness…it’s going to be so fun! #gymnerd

Happy Friday, friends!

What are you doing this weekend?!
